been a while

Been a while since I've posted---but I did write something for the Theatre East blog---take a look, here at the Theatre East blog.

Been rehearsing a new play by James Haigney, directed by Benard Cummings called The Woman Standing on the Moon. It's quite a piece.... difficult subject matter, but hope and healing.

About to start classes back up-- looking forward to diving into the fall semester!

Until next time!

Language.....where's it going?

Totally like whatever, you know?
By Taylor Mali
www.taylormali.com

In case you hadn't noticed,
it has somehow become uncool
to sound like you know what you're talking about?
Or believe strongly in what you're saying?
Invisible question marks and parenthetical (you know?)'s
have been attaching themselves to the ends of our sentences?
Even when those sentences aren't, like, questions? You know?

Declarative sentences - so-called
because they used to, like, DECLARE things to be true
as opposed to other things which were, like, not -
have been infected by a totally hip
and tragically cool interrogative tone? You know?
Like, don't think I'm uncool just because I've noticed this;
this is just like the word on the street, you know?
It's like what I've heard?
I have nothing personally invested in my own opinions, okay?
I'm just inviting you to join me in my uncertainty?

What has happened to our conviction?
Where are the limbs out on which we once walked?
Have they been, like, chopped down
with the rest of the rain forest?
Or do we have, like, nothing to say?
Has society become so, like, totally . . .
I mean absolutely . . . You know?
That we've just gotten to the point where it's just, like . . .
whatever!

And so actually our disarticulation . . . ness
is just a clever sort of . . . thing
to disguise the fact that we've become
the most aggressively inarticulate generation
to come along since . . .
you know, a long, long time ago!

I entreat you, I implore you, I exhort you,
I challenge you: To speak with conviction.
To say what you believe in a manner that bespeaks
the determination with which you believe it.
Because contrary to the wisdom of the bumper sticker,
it is not enough these days to simply QUESTION AUTHORITY.
You have to speak with it, too.

whirlwinds, hurdles...it's all good

haven't written in a while.
been a whirlwind of a semester.
just winding down now with it.
smoothing out, it feels...
over the next week or so.
a few loose ends that i gotta tie.
and scooping up the next thing and trying to figure out what to tackle first.

know what i mean?

things are going well...
can't complain at all.
lots of things tossed this way...
some i catch.
and lots of hurdles...
sometimes i jump them and sometimes i trip.
and it's all good.

know what i mean?

up next:
theatre east: fundraiser, production meeting
teaching and directing: vassar this summer!
acting: booked a pilot
personal: vacation in cancun! yippie!

full............

trust

"Manifestation is an act of trust. It is the soul pouring itself out into its world, like a fisherman casting a net to gather in the fish he seeks; with each cast properly made, we will bring what we need to us, but first we must hurl ourselves into the depths without knowing just what lies beneath us."

new year

2008
was full of beautiful moments
and also...lots of turning corners and growth
personally
nationally
globally
stepping in a bit of quick sand
uncertainty
searching for some solid ground.
the key, i think, is pushing through...not flailing...not sitting...
but pushing through anyway
and choosing to make what might seem like something that would smother you
turn into something that just sits... has no active power...
its job is to sit
and human power is to move.

and through those awesome experiences come awesome growth.

i am thankful.
i am thankful for all of it.

and looking forward
2009
with the economy crap
and wars, and wars, and wars
there is still uncertainty
but i am more aware now, i think
and i think the world is more aware now too.
of course there is still
uncertainty
but now..............
there is
HOPE
and knowledge and understanding and willingness of hard work ahead.
and it's so rich, that i find myself at even more peace
of opening my arms for what's to come
of charging forward with an unblinking eye.................

i am yours, oh God.
i am yours.

thank you for family, friends, a beautiful and safe home, wonderful jobs, amazing opportunities, open doors, closed doors, sunshine, rain, and simple moments.

Happy Blessed New Year. Happy 2009.

Creativity is your birthright.
You miraculously appeared
from nowhere.
The Unseen that gave you Life
is still nourishing you --
and, if you remain open,
it will inspire you
endlessly....

Theatre East

Last night, we had a reading of the second play we'd like to do for the Theatre East season. Things are rolling along... launching the fundraising campaign, along with getting more and more folks involved. We are so excited about what's possible. I mean...we have ideas, but the possibilities are endless with all of these amazing people involved... making the company what it will be. Thank you to all of those involved now... and for the possibilities. Sure looking forward to this journey.

These pictures, by the way, are from the first reading we did back in August. Thank you, Lisa, for taking these!
